The Delhi-based feminine hygiene company has come forward to fund Riya Kumari’s graduation education. This is the same girl who won the internet after asking the government for free sanitary napkins.
The Bihar girl is currently enrolled in a BA course at Ram Vilas Rai College, Hajipur in Vaishali. And not only will her education be sponsored, but the supply of “sixteen” sanitary napkins will be given to for the next year.
For the uninitiated, an IAS Bihar officer has sparked massive outrage on social media following his response to a girl’s request for free sanitary pads during a seminar in Sashakt Beti, Samriddh Bihar in the state capital, Patna, on Tuesday.
The Chief Executive of Women Development Corporation and IAS Bihar, Harjot Kaur Bamhrah was asked by the girl if the government can provide free sanitary pads to the girls as they provide many other facilities for free.
Responding to the question, which was applauded by the audience, the IAS said today that it had asked for sanitary pads and that in future it would also ask the government for free condoms. She further questioned why people need everything for free and said “that mentality is incorrect.”
During his speech on stage, the IAS officer said that tomorrow the girls will ask the government for jeans. And in the end, they will ask the government for free family planning methods and condoms too. However, the official regretted her remarks on Thursday after being criticized for her statement.
On the other hand, Riya Kumari, who also lost her father in 2022, expressed her gratitude to the sanitary napkin company for sponsoring her education. She lives with her older brother, Ghosu Paswan, works as a porter to support her six siblings and her mother, a housewife.
