Being culturally sensitive is an approach to life in a way that practices validation and affirmation of different cultures with the goal of reaching beyond race and getting below the superficial focus on Culture. His vision – Cultural responsiveness is for everyone. The number one goal is to inspire school communities, professional communities and the general public to become culturally sensitive. Dr. Sharroky Hollie is the Executive Director of the Center for Culturally Relevant Teaching and Learning. Dr. Hollie is a national educator providing professional development to thousands of educators in the area of ​​cultural responsiveness.

Introduction to Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Teaching and Learning for APS Teachers

This three-hour course, suitable for APS teachers as well as APS staff who work in schools/classrooms, defines what cultural responsiveness is and why it is needed in our schools today. It also builds knowledge and creates the context for addressing
the needs of underserved students in terms of their sociopolitical and sociolinguistic relativity in the American educational system.

This three-hour course, tailored to APS department personnel, defines what cultural responsiveness is and why it is needed in our district today. This
also builds knowledge and creates the context to meet the needs of underserved students in terms of their sociopolitical and sociolinguistic relativity in the American educational system.

Introduction to Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Teaching and Learning for APS Department Staff with N-Word Workshop

This three-hour course combines the introduction to culturally appropriate teaching and learning for APS staff with the N-Word workshop which focuses on how to approach the N-word and explore it with the students. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own perspective on the N-word and learn about the importance of culturally appropriate language, the social and emotional power of words, and how to move beyond the controversial use of this word.
