Champions of the Continent Beginner’s Guide and Tips

octopath traveler is a solo Roleplay released in 2018 for nintendo switchdevelopped by Square-Enix. Square Enix recently released a prequel that they have published on mobileand the name is Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent (Octopath Traveler: CotC). It establishes the story of Octopath Traveler and lays the groundwork for CotC gamers to try the Switch game. It’s a Turn-based JRPG with lots of interaction and battle scenarios, and can add up to eight characters in a party. In this beginner’s guide, we’ll discuss in detail what Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent revolves around, what the gameplay is like, and help new players understand how it works.

Gameplay overview

The story of Octopath Traveler: CotC takes place in the same country as Octopath Traveler, Orsterra. This time however, the story is brand new. It takes place a few years before the events of Octopath Traveler. Orsterra is ruled by greedy tyrantswealth, power and fame”. While the desires of tyrants have unleashed bottomless darkness upon the world…there are those who resist the darkness. You will meet them while traveling the world as “the chosen of a divine ring”.

What will you get and experience on this journey? A course that will give birth to the champions of the continent. It’s a single-player campaign game, so the focus is always on the story. Now let’s see what the gameplay of CotC looks like.

Introducing the basics of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent

Champions of the Continent is a single-player game, just like Octopath Traveler. It mostly revolves around players taking control and assuming the role of the main character, then recruiting other characters as they travel around Orsterra.

main game

The main gameplay of CotC is a JRPG format. For the uninitiated, a JRPG is a Japanese role-playing game. It involves turn-based gameplay as its main gameplay element. Combat is also turn-based, and all JRPGs involve a large amount of interaction with the game world.

CotC achieves this through richly animated environments and well-crafted combat sequences. Players start with one character and adopt a Point and click method of moving around the maps.

There are three different paths that a player can choose to follow at the start: Wealth, fame, Where Power. Each of these paths has a different boss or villain who is the antagonist of that path. The path players choose determines their story, but they can play the other paths once they have completed the story with one path.

Start with the tutorial

When the game starts, players have to follow a tutorial which explains the basics of the game. Movement, combat and interaction, everything is shown in the tutorial. Once this is complete, players will see a master of cats occasionally, who will guide them through the various stages of the game. Whenever a new phenomenon is introduced to the player, this cute little cat will explain everything in easy-to-understand language. It is recommended that you read these panels, as they are very useful.

Introducing game characters

In Octopath Traveler CotC, players can control up to eight different characters at a time. It is not an easy task. And with so many members, the fight becomes more difficult to manage. Every character is different Works in the game. These jobs are only character classes.

All character classes are what players can find in any other RPG, like warrior, healer, etc. the other Work.

Learning to fight at a party is also interesting. Players can select the action each member commits during a round of combat. There are 3 forms of attacks: light medium, and heavy attacks. Players can decide each teammate’s attack type at the start of a combat round. In addition to this, all attacks have a Prime metre. This meter can only be used when charged, and it can go up to x4 damage.

This means that a character can do 4 times the damage of a normal attack if this bonus is used. All enemies have weaknesses. Use the right type of attack to Break through enemy defenses is also a very important part of learning to fight. Having different jobs in the party also helps here, as different jobs provide players with a range of different weapons and magic.

Most combat situations occur randomly as players roam the map. Sometimes, however, there are enemies who do not hide from the party. These enemies are tougher and harder to kill than normal enemies and are known as Elite enemies. Facing these enemies is not recommended for a beginner, as they have very high defense and attack, and can kill a group if strong enough.

Character Skills

All characters in the player group continue to level up as the game places players in random battles. Since all the characters have different jobs, when they level up they can access different skills. There are a large number of skills that can be improved. All of these skills are part of a skill treeand they require JP be unlocked and updated.

Players acquire JP for their party members as they participate in more battles and win them. When upgraded, they increase party member stats. Increased party member skills and stats make tough battles easier, and the easy-to-understand skill tree is the icing on the cake.

Limit Break

Our group members in CotC have level caps. This means that they cannot be upgraded beyond a certain level unless their cap increases. This is where the limit break concept comes into play. Limit Breaking is the process by which players use Guidestones to break the upper level cap of characters, and then they can be upgraded further. The Guidestones are from two types: Character specific landmarks, and Regular Guidestones. Which Guidestones players can use will depend on the character whose level cap they want to break.

Influence and achievements

Besides combat, influence is also an important part of CotC. Influence can be increased with donations. Achievements are a kind of List of Achievements. This list is a record of daily and weekly player achievements in the game. Since this game is single player, achievements include defeating tough enemies and completing story milestones. Influence is divided into three categories.

Each category is ranked. The categories are power, wealth and fame. Ranks give you Ruby and skills/passive bonuses. So, in addition to active skills that Layers can upgrade through the skill tree, Influence Ranks can help with passive stat increases and perks. Players should make sure to always check in and claim their rewards.

Understanding In-Game Currencies

CotC is a free game and like other free games it has two different currencies. One of them is gold coins which is free money. This can be achieved through battles and campaign missions, and by leveling up party members.

The premium currency is called Ruby, and can be purchased with real money. The primary use of rubies is to purchase higher level materials for party members and buffs that provide them with a temporary stat boost.

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent Beginner’s Guide: Tips and Tricks

Here are some of our tips in our Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent Beginners Guide to help you beginners get started on your journey.

  • Always complete the tutorial, each time you run it again.
  • Be sure to read the little signs that display information about everything new. The little master of cats always gives useful information.
  • When you go over the limits, go for the strongest character in your party and the healer/support characters. This is to make sure you have a high level healer ready in case a battle gets a little too risky.
  • Increase your Influence. As previously stated, an increase in Influence ranking gives party members a boost in power.
  • As in other RPG games with free elements, there are also daily missions in CotC. Doing this will give players much needed resources. It is therefore recommended to supplement them every day.
  • Players might be wondering if there are so many stat and combat upgrades in CotC, what about items? Well, the good news is that no item can be used in any combat situation. So players don’t have to worry about equipping extra gear.
  • Be very careful when forming your party, because even if a group of eight can be formed, not all slots are free. Only four slots are freely available. So choose your members in the most optimal way. A recommended group build is Warrior, DPS, Healer, and Tank. The warrior here fulfills the role of the main fighter on the front line, alongside the tank. Healer heals the team during battle, while DPS deals heavy damage from the baseline.
  • The last but most important tip is to back up your data once in a while. This will also allow players to play from other devices. Because of this, if something happens to the primary playing device, players can continue where they left off, even on a different device.

So go ahead and try it! If you’re having trouble, feel free to refer to this Adorable Home beginner’s guide for advice.
