Boostlingo Hires Language Industry Advocate and Thought Leader Katharine Allen to Join Its Language Access Department


Austin, Texas — July 18, 2022 – Boostlingo, a leader in interpreting management and delivery technology, on Monday announced the addition of Katharine Allen, a well-known thought leader in the interpreting services industry and advocate for interpreters, to the department language access from Boostlingo.

Katharine brings over 30 years of experience as an interpreter to her role as Training Specialist for the Language Access Team, which oversees the Boostlingo network of over 13,000 global interpreters speaking over 300 languages.

A leader and expert in the industry, she has long campaigned for the professionalization of interpretation. She was co-founder and co-chair of InterpretAmerica, an organization dedicated to raising the profile of language services from 2010 to 2021. In 2021, InterpretAmerica received the Alexander Gode Medal, the American Translator Association’s highest award in recognition of exceptional service to the translation and interpreting professions.

Allen was also a founding member of the steering committee of CoPTIC, the Coalition of Practicing Interpreters and Translators of California, which led a successful campaign to protect the ability of interpreters and translators to work as independent contractors under the law. Californian AB 5.

Allen’s areas of expertise include training interpreters and translators, education and program design for onsite and online environments, writing textbooks and interpreting manuals, language access consulting and observing technological trends and their impact on interpretation. Allen has developed curriculum and trained interpreters for University of Massachusetts Amherst, Kaiser Permanente, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Mammoth Medical Missions/Rotary International Medical Missions, Glendon Master of Conference Interpreting at York University, Middlebury Institute of International Studies, and more.

Allen is an advocate for the work of interpreters and a longtime member of the National Council on Health Care Interpreting, the National Association of Court Interpreters and Translators, and others. She is the past president of the California Healthcare Interpreting Association.
