MANDATORY Spanish Language Course for Beginners

With Cultural Immersion Included
In some of our programs, participants must demonstrate at minimum, an intermediate level of the Spanish language (Please read each description). If you have little or no Spanish language skills, you need to enroll in our Spanish language and cultural immersion program during the first week of your placement. This program includes 20 hours of Spanish language classes as well as cultural immersion activities such as latino dancing lessons, Costa Rica cooking lessons, and Tropical Fruit lessons.

Classes are no larger than 6 students and the emphasis is on conversational skills. This certified program is highly recommended for participants with no Spanish skills; This week long program is excellent for quickly picking up Spanish. During and after the language program, you will have opportunities to practice your Spanish in both your volunteer placement and with your homestay family.

During the week long language program, the cultural activities and assignments set by the language program will occupy most of your time. Following your first week of Spanish classes, it may be possible to combine additional language classes along with your volunteer project. If you would like to continue with your Spanish language classes during your stay, Amistad will gladly arrange additional classes on your behalf at a substantially discounted rate.
